Specialists from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) have developed an innovative system that allows for rapid analysis of biological fluids at home. It enables quick and accurate testing of saliva, urine, and blood using a smartphone. The user will only need a special kit with test strips and a phone with a camera.
Special elements on the color device allow the mobile phone to read information from the test strip using the camera.
The created system makes it possible to analyze up to 14 characteristics of biological fluids, such as saliva, urine, and blood. Among them are: glucose, ketones, microalbumin, nitrites, hemoglobin, and leukocytes.
The user needs to install a special application on the smartphone. Then, they open the test kit, fill the provided container, dip the test strip into it, and then place it in the middle of the color calibrator.
After about a minute, they need to scan them using the smartphone camera. The resulting image is processed on a local server, while the safety of patient data is guaranteed. Then the program issues the result.
The test results are highly accurate. Doing such a study at home is very convenient. In addition, the cost of a kit for express diagnostics, which includes a calibrator and test strips, will be, presumably, about 600 rubles.
Earlier, Russian scientists created a ceramic shield to protect the patient's eyes during radiation therapy. High-density ceramics, which are made from refractory metal with high strength, were chosen as the basis for the material. This material is ideal for use in medical applications, but has not previously been used to protect against ionizing radiation in the area around the eyes. In addition, unique bandages for rapid wound healing have been created in Russia.
