A new section of track built using advanced technologies has been put into operation on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Innovative methods were used to optimize the life cycle of track structures in areas with high traffic density.
A key element of the new approach is the creation of a 20-centimeter-thick protective sub-ballast layer. Scientists have determined an effective combination of materials to ensure the required deformation resistance. The tests included testing of various rocks and grain composition of the ballast.
Another important part of the project is the modernization of sleepers. They were reinforced with additional reinforcement and an increased section height of the rail seat.
The rail seat was expanded to 200 mm. This will improve the installation conditions for the elements of the upper track structure and reduce the load. The changes also affected the rail fastening - the force of their pressure against the sleeper was increased.
The technology was tested at the experimental VNIIZhT ring in Shcherbinka near Moscow. Over the next year, the effectiveness of the innovations will be evaluated in real conditions on the Trans-Siberian Railway. After that, it is planned to scale the project for use in the construction of new tracks on the Eastern Polygon.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the capacity of the BAM and Trans-Siberian Railway will increase to 270 million tons in 10 years.
