The Russian frigate "Admiral Kasatonov" launched Kalibr cruise missiles at a coastal target in the Barents Sea, the Northern Fleet reported. Journalists from Bulgarian Military followed the exercises.
The Kalibr missile system is one of the most modern naval weapons in Russia, developed for warships and submarines. It is capable of hitting both sea and land targets with high precision.
According to Bulgarian Military, depending on the modification, Kalibr missiles can hit targets at a distance of 660 to 1500 kilometers. One of the key features of the missile is its maneuverability and speed in the final stage of the flight, when it accelerates to hypersonic speeds. Consequently, the enemy's air defense systems cannot intercept it.
"Admiral Kasatonov" is a modern ship (project 22350) of the Russian fleet, designed for strategic defense. Its length is 130 meters, and its width is 16 meters. "Admiral Kasatonov" is a medium-sized frigate, but its long-range strike capabilities are exceptional.
The ship is equipped with powerful gas turbine engines and develops a speed of up to 29 knots. The frigate's cruising range is about 4,500 nautical miles.
