Serbian authorities are considering joining BRICS and may abandon the purchase of the French Dassault Rafale fighter to replace their aging MiG-29 fleet. It is possible that Belgrade will decide to purchase Russian or Chinese aircraft. This was reported by Bulgarian Military.
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin previously stated that BRICS has become a"real alternative" to membership in the European Union. His words signify a change in the country's political course, as well as the creation of a new security system.
Rafale will be difficult to integrate with the Serbian Air Force's MiG-29s and HQ-22 air defense systems. This mismatch may prevent Serbia from creating a unified defense strategy. With this in mind, the purchase of French aircraft seems impractical.
Thus, Serbia may purchase Chinese J-10 fighters or Russian Su-35s instead of Rafale, Bulgarian Military suggested.
