Roskomnadzor and the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation have prepared draft documents establishing rules for verifying owners of pages and channels on social networks with more than 10,000 subscribers.
It is expected that they will improve protection against Internet fraudsters and take another step towards an effective and transparent advertising market in social networks. The relevant documents have been published on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts.
Roskomnadzor noted that the new mechanisms will help protect owners of popular channels and publics from duplicate accounts, citizens will not be involved in fraudulent schemes and send money to dubious channels, attackers will not be able to steal the page of a verified author, and users will be able to verify whether they are dealing with a verified source of information.
Channels and publics in social networks that have gained more than 10,000 subscribers will be included by Roskomnadzor in the list of public pages with an audience of more than 10,000 users after verification.
The owner of such a resource independently sends a minimum amount of basic information about himself and his channel, including contact information, either using a chatbot in a social network, or through the Roskomnadzor website, or through the Gosuslugi portal.
The social network must place a special sign and a unique link on the page, which can be used to check whether the public is actually on the list. Channels verified in this way will be able to place advertising and accept donations.
