In October, India will conduct the annual Malabar naval exercise in the Bay of Bengal, with the participation of ships from the United States, Japan, and Australia. The Indian Navy will involve the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya (formerly the Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser "Admiral Gorshkov") in the maneuvers, according to the Eurasian Times.
India will also deploy the P-8I Poseidon patrol aircraft, MiG-29K carrier-based fighters, Talwar-class frigates (Project 1135.6, NATO classification - Talwar - a series of six multi-purpose frigates built in Russia for the Indian Navy), and Kalvari-class submarines.
The United States will send one of its Nimitz-class aircraft carriers to the exercises, along with its accompanying destroyers and submarines. The cruiser will carry F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft.
INS Vikramaditya is the flagship of the Indian Navy. The Northern Machine-Building Enterprise (Severodvinsk) modernized the Russian cruiser "Admiral Gorshkov." The ship was transferred to India in November 2013.
