The Yandex team has announced the launch of an update for the "Yandex Weather" service, which allows you to integrate weather data into smart home systems. With the new free API, users will be able to create scenarios that take into account the current weather outside. This means that a smart home will be able to automatically respond to weather conditions: for example, turn on underfloor heating on cold evenings or bright light on rainy mornings. In the near future, these features will become available to users with "Alice".
The API provides weather data with an accuracy of up to an hour, including temperature, wind speed, precipitation and perceived temperature. With this API, you can configure a smart home so that under certain conditions, for example, when the temperature is below eight degrees, heating is automatically turned on, and in cloudy weather, UV lamps for plants are activated. You can also connect notifications about changes in the weather and display the forecast on the display of watches or other devices.
The API is designed for advanced users and is compatible with any systems that support third-party APIs. A plugin is provided for Home Assistant users to simplify the connection. To connect, you need to register in the personal account of "Yandex Weather" for a smart home and get a key. Users of the "Weather for Business" API must create a new account. The service is provided free of charge for home use.
