In the first half of 2024, a decrease in the number of accidents is recorded in most regions of Russia

In the first half of 2024, Russia is experiencing a significant difference in accident rates between regions. Chechnya, Yamalo-Nenets, and Chukotka Autonomous Okrugs demonstrate the lowest number of accidents with casualties, while Tuva, Kalmykia, and Omsk Oblast have the highest accident rates.

In the first six months of 2024, 56.4 thousand accidents with casualties were registered in Russia, which is 0.1% more compared to the same period last year. The number of victims in accidents has hardly changed: the number of deaths increased by 1%, and the number of injured decreased by 0.8%. Differences in the level of accidents between regions are significant: the lowest value is in Chechnya (11.1 accidents per 100 thousand vehicles), the highest is in Tuva and Kalmykia (265.1 and 219.4 accidents, respectively, per the same number of vehicles).

Chechnya ranks first with the lowest accident rate, while Tuva and Kalmykia close the ranking with the worst indicators. In general, 43 regions are recording a decrease in the number of accidents with casualties, while the situation has worsened in 42 regions. Bryansk Oblast showed the largest decrease in the number of accidents, reducing this figure by 30%.

Chechnya also leads in the number of victims per 100 thousand people, where this figure is 5.2, which is ten times lower than the national average. The worst indicators were recorded in Kalmykia and Tyumen Oblast, where the number of victims exceeds 100 per 100 thousand residents.
