Россия готова нарастить выпуск кораблей противоминной обороны проекта 12700

The Russian Navy already has eight such ships in service, with five more at shipyards in various stages of completion

This became known after the visit of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, to the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard. He familiarized himself with a number of workshops and construction sites and took note of information about unique technologies that allow building a series of mine defense ships with a hull made of composite materials.

Ships of Project 12700 fully confirm, and in some respects exceed, the performance parameters laid down by the designers. The experience of operating ships of this project shows their effectiveness..

According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, Moiseev also noted that the shipbuilders of the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard «are responsible for fulfilling the state defense order».

 He said that the plant has every opportunity to increase the dynamics of the construction process of Project 12700 mine defense ships, and the Main Command of the Navy expects that the pace of creation of these ships will increase.

Project 12700

The project was developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau. The vessels of the project belong to a new generation of mine-sweeping forces and are distinguished by maneuverability due to an effective complex of thrusters and a reduced magnetic field due to the use of fiberglass for the hull.

Advanced mine defense equipment is installed on board Project 12700 vessels, including sonar stations located both on the ship itself and on remotely controlled and autonomous underwater vehicles.

Characteristics of the basic ship of Project 12700:

  • displacement — 800-890 tons;
  • draft — 2.6-3.6 m;
  • speed — 10-16.5 knots;
  • crew — more than 40 people;
  • endurance — 10 days
  • armament — AK-306 30 mm anti-aircraft gun, Igla 1 MANPADS or Verba MANPADS, 14.5 mm marine pedestal machine gun. It is also possible to install two 12.7-mm Kord machine guns;
  • aviation group — "Almaz".

To date, eight ships of Project 12700 are already serving in the Russian Navy. The ninth minesweeper "Afanasy Ivannikov" is being prepared for launching. The tenth, eleventh and twelfth ships are at various stages of construction, the thirteenth, "Viktor Korner", was laid down at SNSZ at the end of July.
