Великобритания строит спутниковую станцию для защиты от космических угроз России и Китая

The UK's Royal Air Force wants to protect the state's main communication and navigation networks from attacks.

According to the British The Daily Telegraph, the newest radar station for satellite tracking to counter "reckless" space threats will appear in Wales. The Cawdor Barracks in Pembrokeshire, formerly known as RAF Brawdy, will be its location. Currently, it houses the secret 14th Army Signals Regiment, an electronic warfare unit.

The Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) station is designed to protect the UK's main satellite communication and navigation networks. It also has a scientific mission.

This new radar program will not only increase our awareness of deep space, but also help protect our space assets together with our closest partners. Space plays a crucial role in our daily lives - it is used in everything from mobile phones to banking services. It is also used by the UK Ministry of Defence to perform vital tasks such as supporting military operations, managing troops and gathering intelligence.
John Healey, UK Defence Minister

DARC is a multinational project based on the AUCUS defence pact between the UK, the US and Australia. The main part of the pact is the construction of new nuclear submarines for the Australian and British navies. But defence cooperation between the three countries is gradually expanding, forming close ties necessary for the transfer of classified technologies.

The publication notes that DARC's emphasis on monitoring Russian and Chinese satellites is no accident. Over the past decade, China "has transformed itself into a space superpower, challenging the sphere beyond Earth's atmosphere, which has traditionally been dominated by the United States." In 2023, the country conducted 222 space launches, second only to the United States, and is also active in the lunar program and other space exploration issues.

Russia, according to The Daily Telegraph, poses "a similar threat to the rules-based international order in space, as the US warned in May that Vladimir Putin's country had launched a new weapon capable of destroying satellites".
