The body assembly of the experimental model of the photonic processor is already underway, and it should be completed by the end of the year. The device is scheduled to launch in 2025.
The experimental photonic processor was created by specialists from Samara University named after Korolev as part of the scientific program of the National Center for Physics and Mathematics (NCPM), implemented with the support of the Rosatom State Corporation.
The photonic processor will allow:
- to achieve record machine performance: it will reach 10 to the 21st power operations per second. Scientists will be able to analyze and recognize objects hundreds of times faster than modern digital neural networks based on traditional semiconductor computers;
- to solve applied problems in processing large amounts of data and obtain fundamental results in the field of AI and machine learning;
- to recognize huge amounts of data in volumetric video streams. This is very important for the rapid analysis of hyperspectral data;
- to obtain high-reliability data recognition: it is known that during the first experiments on the demonstration model, it amounted to 93.75%, and it will only grow further.
Earlier it became known that Russia is working on its own photonic supercomputer. Scientists at the Research Center for Supercomputers and Neurocomputers in Taganrog say that it will operate at a frequency of 1 trillion hertz.
