Switching: Russian Xiaomi and TCL plant may move production to Kazakhstan

Product costs may increase by 10-20%.

The Chinese TV brand TCL, amid sanctions risks, has refused to supply its components to Russian contract manufacturers Kvant and STI Group. This was reported by the Kommersant newspaper, citing sources.

In July, the Chinese electronics manufacturer TCL refused to supply components for assembling TVs in Russia, said a representative of the Voronezh plant Kvant, one of the brand's contract manufacturers in Russia. This decision was made amid threats of secondary sanctions from the US and the EU. As a result, TCL brand production at Kvant is being discontinued.

Chinese vendor Xiaomi also stopped supplying components in 2022, which led to the cessation of TV production of this brand in Voronezh.

The production of TCL TVs, as well as Xiaomi, may be launched in Kazakhstan, from where deliveries to Russia are possible. However, due to logistics, the cost of production may increase by 10-20%.

In general, Russian factories have enough components to assemble TVs until November. Some companies are considering freezing their production. Experts warn that this may lead to a shortage of devices.
