В России реализовали технологию управления беспилотником через спутник

This makes it possible to track the location of drones without other communication channels

In Russia, control of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) via a space satellite has been successfully established for the first time. This was reported by the press service of the State Corporation Roscosmos.

The experiment was conducted by Geoscan and JSC Satellite System Gonets (part of the State Corporation Roscosmos).

Data on the location and telemetry data of the drone were successfully transmitted to the data center, and a command was sent via satellite to forcibly return the UAV to the launch site.

Ground tests and flights at the airfield were carried out from July 13 to 16 this year. The Geoscan 201 UAV was used in the experiment. The model is equipped with an experimental Gonets onboard modem and a lightweight antenna.

Specialists performed 6 flights and received 218 information messages with drone telemetry on the FTP server of the Gonets system. This made it possible to evaluate the transmission of data from the UAV to the satellite and the sending of commands from the drone ground control station to Geoscan via satellite.

The technology will help determine the location of the drone where there are no other communication channels.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia wants to start observing drones from space.
