Russia will begin production of ersatz spare parts (inferior substitutes) for foreign Boeing and Airbus aircraft. This is a violation of international aviation rules and may negatively affect flight safety, Politico writes.
In March 2022, Airbus and Boeing stopped servicing aircraft in the fleet of Russian airlines. In addition, they stopped supplying spare parts. Russia found a way out of the situation and began to establish the production of necessary parts through reverse engineering.
According to Andrew Charlton, Managing Director of Aviation Advocacy, such aircraft cannot fly in European airspace.
A Russian aircraft with domestically produced parts, but not approved or controlled by Boeing or Airbus, will not be allowed to operate in Europe.
An aircraft flying with “counterfeit spare parts is a risk”, he summarized.
It is known that parts for foreign aircraft will be produced at Rosatom enterprises. We are talking about components for air conditioning, power supply and lighting systems of aircraft.
