Russian aviation has begun using the FAB-3000 M-54, equipped with a universal planning and correction module (UPCM). At the same time, military personnel could launch it from the ground, using, for example, the North Korean KN-25 multiple launch rocket system (MLRS). This idea was expressed by military expert Sergei Marzhetsky.
The FAB-3000 M-54 can be delivered by Tu-22M3 and Tu-95MS long-range bombers. However, these aircraft are designed to perform other tasks.
The Su-34 front-line fighter-bomber was not originally structurally planned as a carrier of such powerful ammunition.
Marzhetsky suggested considering the possibility of a ground launch for the FAB-3000 M-54.
For the launch, it would be possible to use a super-large-caliber MLRS, something like the 600-mm North Korean KN-25.
Equipped with a fairing and a set of folding wings, the bombs can be placed on jet boosters and launched towards the target from mobile complexes, without risking the aircraft crew, Marzhetsky summarized.
Earlier, Western media reported on the use of FAB-3000 with UMPC by the Russian military. Bild journalist Julian Röpcke called it a "terrible bomb."
