Drones were used for the first time in Abkhazia to protect palm trees from the weevil. This was announced by the head of the State Committee for Ecology of Abkhazia, Saveliy Chitanava.
A drone sprayer can carry about 40 liters of pesticide for tree treatment. It is noted that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are being used for such purposes in the Republic of Abkhazia for the first time; previously, insects were controlled manually.
Weevils are a large family of beetles, represented by 50,000 species. They are distributed throughout the world, but especially love the tropical climate. In Russia, scientists count about 5,000 species.
The effectiveness of the method is currently being tested. In the future, it is planned to be used to combat other pests in hard-to-reach areas.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that large-unit assembly of agricultural drones will be carried out in the Primorsky Territory.
