Russia has begun developing a nuclear power plant that will be delivered to the Moon and installed there to operate the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS).
This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov. Earlier, Borisov said that Moscow and Beijing plan to deliver and install a nuclear power plant on the surface of the Moon in 2033-2035. Such a plant is necessary in order to create a compact, reliable, long-term and durable energy source on the Moon for the operation of the ILRS. Delivery will be carried out automatically due to radiation safety considerations.
The first stage of the creation of the Russian-Chinese project of the International Lunar Research Station, to which Belarus, the UAE and Pakistan intend to join, will start as early as 2025. By 2035, the research station will be completed and will start operating.
