Microsoft, Amazon, and Google to Restrict Operations in Russia Starting March 20

Accessing data from these services will be impossible - users are urged to urgently copy it

Russian users of cloud products from American companies Microsoft, Amazon, and Google will lose access to them starting March 20, 2024. This was announced by Softline Group, citing the receipt of official letters from Microsoft and Amazon.

The restrictions are explained by the 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia dated December 19, 2023. In particular, it restricts the supply of software for business analytics and other products to the Russian Federation. For example, Power BI and Dynamics CRM will stop working. And not only them.

For Russian companies, this means that using these products or accessing the data contained in them will be impossible from March 20, 2024.

According to letters from copyright holders, these products will become unavailable to Russian clients due to the requirements of the new provisions of EU Regulation 833/2014, which introduces restrictions on the supply of various types of software to Russia.

It is important to note that this may concern all cloud products from Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, which the copyright holders identify as prohibited for supply to the Russian Federation according to the requirements of the above-mentioned Regulation.

To avoid complete or partial loss of information, Softline Group recommends that all companies promptly back up data related to all cloud products from Microsoft, Amazon, and Google.

Softline states that it is ready to provide assistance and comprehensive support to its clients in transitioning to alternative Russian solutions. As one of the leaders in the Russian IT industry, it has launched a special Telegram channel with recommendations on what can replace a particular foreign system.

Most likely, other companies in the market will also provide their support to their clients in this matter.

The maximum sanctions impact is currently being felt by businesses, as state corporations and entities with state participation in Russia have already begun migrating to domestic software. State corporations and companies with state participation must fully transition to Russian operating systems (OS), office suites, antivirus programs, and virtualization systems by January 1, 2025.
