The diesel-electric submarine "Mozhaisk," which joined the Navy in late November 2023, has begun testing to perform Task L-2 at the training grounds of the Baltic Fleet. Task L-2 is an important part of the program for preparing submarines to perform their main functions in various operational and tactical scenarios. The ship's crew will conduct single-navigation maneuvers and perform deep-sea dives in one of the areas of the Baltic Sea. This was reported on Monday by the press service of JSC "Admiralty Shipyards".
The Mozhaisk submarine is the fifth submarine of Project 636.3 of the Rubin Design Bureau, built at the Admiralty Shipyards. It was launched on April 27 last year. Currently, JSC "Admiralty Shipyards" continues the construction of the sixth submarine of this series - "Yakutsk". Both boats were laid down in parallel in August 2021. This type of submarine is considered a further development of Project 877 "Varshavyanka", created in the Rubin Design Bureau, which is part of the USC. Currently, there are 11 ships of this type in service with the Navy.
Ships of modification 636 of the project have increased combat effectiveness due to the optimal combination of stealth and target detection range. Their modern control and weapons systems make them one of the most powerful in their class in the world.
By order of the former Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Nikolai Evmenov, the "Mozhaisk" was included in the Primorsky Flotilla of the Pacific Fleet. According to Evmenov, such boats, due to the fact that they are invisible to the enemy and carry inevitable retribution, are called "black holes". "Mozhaisk" is equipped with advanced torpedo weapons and the Kalibr missile system, which is successfully used in real combat operations.
