The pre-production prototype of the heavy-duty YaMZ-770 engine, presented in the fall of 2023 at the Russian Comtrans-2023 exhibition, is approaching the stage of launch into mass production.
It is being tested as a power unit for heavy transport, construction, mining and tractor equipment, as part of diesel generator sets and on specialized products. Officially, the start of sales was announced at the exhibition for 2025, but the first YaMZ-770 units may be assembled this year.
YaMZ-770 is a representative of the family of heavy six-cylinder in-line diesel engines manufactured by the Yaroslavl Motor Plant, weighing just over a ton. The engine is four-stroke, with a working volume of 12.4 liters, with compression ignition (compression ratio 17.5), with direct injection, liquid cooling, with turbocharging and cooling of the charge air in an air-to-air heat exchanger.
It has a battery fuel supply system and an exhaust gas recirculation system. The engine belongs to the environmental classes Euro-5/Euro-6, for this it has an SCR exhaust gas purification system implemented.
The YaMZ-770 will have several modifications in terms of power from 360 to 620 hp and torque from 1700 to 2550 Nm. YaMZ-770 diesel engines are designed without a gearbox and clutch.
It is expected that YaMZ-770 will be purchased by agricultural producers, manufacturers of railway equipment and heavy equipment, who are now forced to install Chinese engines on their products.
