St. Petersburg will have a new ice-class tug built by the Nobel Brothers Shipyard LLC, which is part of the Kalashnikov concern. Work on the "Narvskaya Zastava" will be completed by the end of 2026.
Project 3262 ice-class tug of the class "КМ Аrc4 [1] R3- RSN AUT2 Tug" was developed at the "Engineering Center for Shipbuilding" in St. Petersburg. It can be found in the waters of the Neva and Svir Rivers along the entire length of navigable routes, Lake Ladoga and Lake Onega, in the coastal areas of the Gulf of Finland adjacent to the Leningrad Region.
The "Narvskaya Zastava" is about 42.5 meters long, 11.8 meters wide, and has a displacement of 655.7 tons. The engine is a 2x1800 kW power plant. The vessel, although called an ice-class tug, will be multipurpose. The tug will be able to:
- carry out icebreaking operations in coastal marine areas and inland waterways, including combating ice jams on the Neva;
- destroy and eliminate ice formations near water intakes from the Neva for urban needs;
- create channels for ice convoying of ships;
- participate in emergency rescue operations and oil spill response, including in winter;
- extinguish fires.
According to the press service of the concern, the tug will have space for special containers for oil spill response operations. And in order for the vessel to pass under the numerous bridges over the Neva, it will have a lifting and lowering wheelhouse, folding masts and antennas.
Eight people will work on the tug. It will be able to stay in autonomous mode for five days.
