The Roscosmos State Corporation showed a model of the new Russian Orbital Station at the International Exhibition "Russia" in the VDNKh pavilion "Cosmonautics and Aviation". It will replace the rapidly aging ISS for Russian cosmonauts and scientists. The development of a scientific and experimental module is already underway, and the first module of the station will be launched in two years.
Rosatom technologies will be used in the creation of the ROS, and the station itself will become a testing ground for various experiments. With its help, fundamental and applied problems in artificial intelligence, cosmology, laser physics, supercomputer modeling, and experimental astrophysics will be solved.
It will differ from the ISS not only in its technical content, but also in its polar orbit, which will provide an overview of the entire Russian territory. It is assumed that, in particular, the new station will be able to survey the strategically important Northern Sea Route 16 times a day. Currently, cosmonauts can only see 15% of Russian land from the ISS. But this is not enough for the development of science and technology, and for security.
There are other interesting objects in the exposition. For example, the new Angara launch vehicle, the promising Korona launch vehicle "Korona", or a model of the demonstrator of the reusable winged rocket block "Krylo-SV".
The International Exhibition and Forum "Russia" will last until April 12, 2024.
