Decoy Tanks with Heat Signature and Dummy Drones: The National Interest Praised Russia for Its Ability to Use False Targets

Military Expert Suchiu: Imitation Loitering Munitions Deplete Enemy Air Defense

Russia has begun to create effective decoy aircraft that can draw fire and expend enemy resources. This opinion was expressed by military expert Peter Suchiu in an article for The National Interest.

In 1944, in anticipation of the Normandy landing operation, the US and British military tried to mislead the Germans. To do this, they used inflatable tanks. Modern decoys have become more sophisticated. Some of them can move and create heat signatures.

The Russian military uses not only dummy structures. They launch cheap drones that look like more expensive loitering munitions, forcing the enemy's air defense to work.

When striking, soldiers can launch up to 50% of drones that mimic the Geran or Gerber kamikaze drones, The National Interest writes. The enemy uses expensive missiles to shoot down a "penny" decoy.

Such trap drones have complicated countermeasures during massive drone attacks. All this leads to the depletion of the stock of anti-aircraft missiles.
