Newsweek: Русская «Герань-2» бросает вызов традиционным системам ПВО

Western experts are concerned about a video from the production site of strike UAVs in Alabuga

Journalists from the American weekly Newsweek called the mass production of loitering munitions "Geran-2" in Russia a "challenge." This is how they commented on the first video from a secret production site in the special economic zone (SEZ) "Alabuga" in Tatarstan.

Experts believe that Russia's transition from importing Iranian Shahed drones to developing an improved modification of the "Geran" line is an important step in defense policy.

"Geran-2", designed after the Iranian Shahed-136, is cheap, easy to assemble, and effective against air defense systems.

American journalists claim that by November 2025, Russia will be able to launch up to 2,000 drones in one night.

As Russia increases the production of loitering munitions, and Iran demonstrates the effectiveness of Shahed, both countries are moving to a new tactic of aerial combat, challenging traditional air defense systems.

Earlier, the General Director of the SEZ "Alabuga," Timur Shagivaleev, stated that the production of "Geran" is fully localized. Workers use aluminum, carbon and fiberglass, and electronics of Russian origin.

The plant has opened foundry and forging shops, and the production of engines and the assembly of carbon fiber fuselages have been established. Finished drones undergo testing and debugging.
