Russian strategic cruise missiles of the 3M14T "Caliber-NK" series continue to be vulnerable to a number of modern anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM). This was stated by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
Despite their impressive power, strategic cruise missiles of the 3M14T "Caliber-NK" series remain vulnerable to modern SAM systems, such as SAMP-T, IRIS-T SLM, IR-ASRAAM, as well as S-300PS, especially when launched in small salvos of four missiles. Due to the limited speed of 950 km/h, "Caliber-NK" are not capable of performing intensive anti-aircraft maneuvers and have an effective reflecting surface (ERS) of about 0.1 m².
Damantsev noted that for breaking through echeloned anti-missile barriers, it is more advisable to use hypersonic aeroballistic missiles Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal" and air-launched cruise missiles Kh-101 with an ERS within 0.01 m².
"Caliber-NK" is designed to be launched from surface ships. The main advantage of the complex is its versatility, which allows it to be used as an anti-ship and strike missile. The range of the "Caliber-NK" complex reaches 2500 km.
The "Caliber-NK" missile system is equipped on frigates of Project 22350 type "Admiral Gorshkov" and corvettes of Project 21631 "Buyan-M".
