India is preparing to conclude a series of deals for the sale of the BrahMos cruise missile (produced by the joint Russian-Indian venture BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd). It is considered a strategic asset, "the jewel" of India's defense production, writes Eurasian Times.
Indonesia is close to reaching an agreement with India to purchase the powerful anti-ship cruise missile. The Philippines, which previously purchased BrahMos, plans to place another order. Vietnam and Malaysia have also expressed interest in the missile.
BrahMos launch platforms:
- land-based
- air-launched
- surface-launched
The missile reaches speeds of up to Mach 2.8. Its flight range depends on the launch platform and varies between 300-500 kilometers.
According to Eurasian Times, Malaysia plans to acquire the BrahMos NG, a more compact version of the cruise missile. It is compatible with the Russian Su-30 fighters in service with the Royal Malaysian Air Force.
About BrahMos-NG
Production of BrahMos-NG (new generation) in India will begin in late 2025. BrahMos-NG will differ from previous generation missiles in size and weight. Advanced stealth technology will be incorporated into its development. The missile can also be launched from a torpedo tube.
