400 km/h and pressure drops: Russian HSR train received first 17 climate systems

The new complex automatically monitors temperature, CO₂, and cabin occupancy based on data from 40 sensors

The company "Traks" has delivered the first 17 climate control units for experimental high-speed railway trains on the Moscow — St. Petersburg line to the "Uralskiye Lokomotivy" plant. The equipment is designed not only to maintain temperature but also to handle sharp pressure drops when the train moves at speeds up to 400 km/h, including when encountering another train and passing through tunnels.

Of the 17 units, 13 are intended for passenger compartments, and four for driver's cabs. The climate system automatically regulates operation based on data from 40 sensors that monitor temperature, carbon dioxide concentration, and cabin occupancy. The cooling capacity of the equipment reaches 38 kW, and preliminary bench tests were conducted across the entire range from -50 to +70 °C.

To protect passengers from pressure drops, the system includes a special compensation device. In case of a sharp change in external pressure, it helps maintain air parameters inside the carriage within permissible limits — a problem particularly relevant for a train designed for speeds up to 400 km/h.

The delivered units are intended for prototypes of the domestic high-speed electric train. After bench testing, the equipment will undergo full-scale tests on the train, and by the end of 2026, "Traks" plans to deliver another 23 units.

The company launched the production of components for transport climate systems in Mytishchi in June 2026: the project, valued at 2 billion rubles, received a 1 billion ruble preferential loan from FRPR.
