Rosatom may build 4 more power units at El Dabaa NPP

Putin and Sisi discussed expanding cooperation in nuclear energy at the BRICS summit

The capacity of the El Dabaa NPP could be increased. The construction of additional power units was discussed at a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. This was stated by Rosatom head Alexey Likhachev.

According to Likhachev, the state corporation is ready to build about 4 more power units. This initiative is supported by Putin, the top manager noted.

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi expressed gratitude to Russian nuclear specialists for building the El Dabaa NPP, he added.

This is the highest praise that can be heard when the head of state thanks us and asks to develop cooperation.

The development of nuclear energy is very important for Egypt; it is in the interests of the Egyptian people, Likhachev concluded.

The El Dabaa NPP is being built 350 km from Cairo. The plant will consist of 4 power units with Russian VVER-1200 reactors.

Active construction of the first two power units began in 2022. A year later, construction of the third unit started, and in 2024, the fourth. The first generation of electricity is scheduled for 2028.
