The Uralvagonzavod Concern has launched serial production of a new assault kit for all-round protection for T-80BVM tanks. Designers analyzed the experience of field modifications and created a standard alternative.
Uralvagonzavod emphasized that the new kit covers the combat vehicle from all projections. Steel cables, upon impact, deform the cumulative munition's body or cause it to detonate at a safe distance from the main armor.
At the same time, the design does not reduce the tank's mobility, does not restrict the crew's view, and does not interfere with the operation of aiming systems.
Uralvagonzavod added that a batch of T-80BVMs with the new protection was sent to the troops for Tanker's Day, which is celebrated on September 13.
The protection offered by Uralvagonzavod resembles "dreadlocks" – a discovery by field engineers. Heavy cables hanging along the entire projection of the combat vehicle effectively hinder drones.
Military expert Sergey Marzhetsky suggested turning T-80 series tanks into basic mine clearing trawls. To do this, in his opinion, the heavy turret should be removed and the hull reinforced with an armored box.
A tanker with 20 years of experience, Major Andrey Bestemyanov, explained that the T-80BVMs have not gone into the past, despite the era of attack drones. He is convinced that combat vehicles are still capable of engaging targets with direct fire.
