Msta-S howitzer engine "lights up" in loitering munition cameras

Self-propelled gun crews switch to operating from the onboard network for camouflage

The engines of Msta-S self-propelled guns are clearly visible in drone cameras, so crews shut them down in advance and operate from the onboard network with batteries. This was stated by the gunner with the call sign Koma.

Due to high UAV activity, it was decided to operate from the onboard network with the engine shut down to maintain camouflage and preserve the gun.

The military added that self-propelled units, like the rest of the artillery, literally "dug into the ground" for camouflage. However, counter-battery warfare is being conducted very intensively.

Despite the Msta-S platform's age, its modernization continues relentlessly. The howitzer was equipped with an automated guidance and fire control system, shell consumption decreased significantly.

The rate of fire of the unit also increased — up to 10 rounds per minute. Target acquisition is mainly assisted by reconnaissance drones, including the Orlan-10.
