To protect airports from drones, it is necessary to use aerostats with radar stations. Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile systems protect against almost all threats except drones, which should be combated by other means, explained retired Colonel Sergey Khatylev.
According to him, a large area of airports is under control, but landing and take-off zones are the most vulnerable.
It won't be possible to cover everything, but we can use existing experience. We need to use aerostats with radar stations that detect drone attacks in advance.
Khatylev explained that such a scheme would allow for early detection of approaching drones and the determination of safe corridors for civil aviation.
Another method of protection for individual objects is anti-drone nets, the colonel added.
However, rocket engineer Alexey Vasiliev has already dismissed the idea of using aerostats against UAVs. According to him, such structures have high windage, making it difficult to keep them strictly in one place.
