Sochi designer develops radar with two types of radio signals

The scheme proposes simultaneously emitting different phase-manipulated pulses and combining them for processing

Sochi engineer Yuri Cheprukov has developed a new radar scheme that will increase the effectiveness of target detection by simultaneously working with two different signals. Instead of one complex probing beam, the system generates at least two signals.

They differ in frequency sets but are selected in such a way that, when processed together, they amplify the main peak of the autocorrelation function and simultaneously reduce the relative level of side lobes.

This gives the radar an important advantage. The reflection from a real target should stand out more clearly against the background of spurious signals.

After reception, the echo signals undergo conversion to an intermediate frequency and matched filtering, and then the system sums the obtained results.

The combined information is used to detect the target and determine the signal delay. This is used to calculate the range, and the claimed system also allows determining the radial velocity and coordinates of objects.

Before this, a group of developers in Sverdlovsk Oblast proposed a new radar scheme against naval drones with two spaced transceiver arrays.
