Rosatom and Egypt are expanding cooperation in non-energy nuclear technologies, said Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the state corporation. One of the key requests from the Egyptian side is the creation of a high-performance nuclear medicine center based on a research reactor, which will be a comprehensive solution.
As Likhachev clarified, the project will include a radiopharmaceutical production plant, isotope production, and modern diagnostic systems based on PET and SPECT technologies, including those using Russian equipment. The implementation of the center will allow up to 30,000 diagnostic studies and provide therapy for 400 patients per year. The project is expected to be launched as early as 2027.
In addition to the medical direction, the parties are working on issues of localizing floating nuclear power plants, small-capacity stations, and also discussing the construction of an Additive Technologies Center (CAT) and cooperation in the field of new materials. Egypt is already receiving isotope products from Russia: since 2024, supplies of lutetium-177 for cancer therapy have been underway, and in 2025, a contract for iodine-131 was signed.
