An Indonesian Air Force Su-30MK2 fighter jet rolled off the runway after completing a major overhaul or scheduled maintenance. The incident occurred at Sultan Hasanuddin Air Base in South Sulawesi.
During high-speed taxiing and brake testing on the runway, an unknown "anomaly" occurred in the braking system, which prevented the pilot from stopping at the required location.
The combat aircraft rolled 30 meters beyond the landing strip. The Su-30MK2 was towed to a maintenance hangar, where it will undergo further inspections to determine the cause of the malfunction.
It should be noted that the Indonesian Air Force has nine Su-30MK2 units. They were delivered in two batches – in 2007 and 2011, with the deal amounting to approximately $770 million. The military also has five Su-27KM in its fleet.
Earlier, media reported on Indonesia's interest in the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter program. Russia received an application from the republic for the supply of weapons and military equipment for the period from 2025 to 2030.
