The Strategic Missile Forces Technical School has received new training systems for preparing driver-mechanics of Yars mobile ground-based missile systems (PGRK). According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the educational and material base is constantly being updated, and a dedicated complex is created for each type of weapon.

The new equipment allows for practicing the control of vehicles with multi-axle wheeled chassis in various weather and climatic conditions. The visualization system reproduces road situations in real time, and the instructor monitors the trainee's actions using duplicate screens. Practical skills are reinforced at a driving range with diverse routes.

The Yars is a missile system with a solid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile and a multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicle. It was put on experimental combat duty in December 2009 and is a modification of the Topol-M complex. Updating the training base accelerates driver training and reduces the wear and tear on combat vehicles.

What we wrote about Yars and the training of its crews

For each type of Strategic Missile Forces weaponry, dedicated training complexes are created, integrated into a global training network: virtual systems allow for simulating patrolling with consideration of terrain and obstacles, practicing actions both individually and as part of crews. The topic of training specialists specifically for Yars has been discussed before: the Strategic Missile Forces graduated a group of junior military technicians who passed exams on the design and operation of the complex, after which they received certificates as PGRK driver-mechanics and were sent to their duty stations. Finally, the practical significance of regular crew training was explained by the Western publication Army Recognition: Yars deployments for combat duty serve as a demonstration of Russia's ability to maintain dispersed and rapidly maneuvering strategic forces.
