Chinese company New-New Shipping Line will commission six container vessels with a capacity of 4800 TEU each by the end of October for transportation from China to Russia via the Northern Sea Route, TASS reported, citing the company's CEO Ke Jin. TEU is a conditional 20-foot container, 6.1 meters long, a standard unit of measurement in maritime logistics. In total, the six new vessels will be able to transport almost 29 thousand such containers simultaneously.

The first vessel has already docked in Murmansk and delivered automotive components. For the Murmansk Commercial Sea Port, this is the first experience of receiving container cargo arriving via the Arctic route. In July 2024, New-New Shipping Line launched the "Arctic Express No. 1", connecting Shanghai and Ningbo with Arkhangelsk, and in June 2026 at the SPIEF, the parties agreed on direct transshipment of about 500 containers through Murmansk.
The expansion of the fleet to six vessels significantly increases the carrying capacity of the Northern Sea Route. The route is becoming a regular alternative to southern routes, reducing delivery times for goods between Asia and the European part of Russia. The successful call at Murmansk confirms the port infrastructure's readiness to handle container cargo along the Arctic corridor.
