The Ministry of Transport notes a steady interest in transportation along the Northern Sea Route (NSR). As Minister Andrey Nikitin told TASS on the sidelines of the SPIEF, a large-scale program for the construction of icebreakers and Arctic-class vessels should be the key driver. While the infrastructure is underdeveloped and transportation is expensive, the commissioning of new capacities, in his estimation, will allow investments to pay off.
Nikitin emphasized that most large companies forming the cargo base are already incorporating the Trans-Arctic Corridor into their strategic plans.
Maybe not tomorrow, but everyone understands that this is one of the very reliable and safe routes
In fact, the state takes on the capital-intensive start – the construction of an icebreaking fleet and terminals, and businesses follow, ensuring utilization.
The Northern Sea Route (NSR) has ceased to be exotic for other states; it is considered a reliable alternative to other sea routes. China, India, and Southeast Asian countries are showing interest in the Arctic route, stated Murmansk Oblast Governor Andrey Chibis on the sidelines of the SPIEF.
