The Russian automotive industry has gained a new strong player — the AGR group took 24.4% of the market by the end of the first seven months of 2026, according to Sergey Tselikov, head of the Avtostat agency. The company, which inherited the assembly facilities of car manufacturers that left Russia, surpassed Chinese Haval (GWM) with a share of about 20%. AvtoVAZ remains the leader with 35.5%.

In total, 513.3 thousand passenger cars were assembled in Russia from January to July 2026, including Belgee assembly for the Russian market. This is 16% more than in the same period last year. Three companies — AvtoVAZ, AGR, and Haval — now control about 80% of all local production of passenger cars.

AGR gained control over factories that previously belonged to Renault, Nissan, and Mercedes-Benz, as well as over the St. Petersburg plant, which began producing Solaris after Hyundai's departure. In 2025, the assembly of Solaris cars from Korean concern's car kits was completed. Currently, the group's enterprises assemble Tenet, Esteo, Jaecoo, and Omoda brands. In August 2026, the group introduced a new brand, Tenet Plus, and established an engineering center for automotive research and development.

In 2023–2024, AGR signed agreements with Chinese manufacturers Chery and GAC for contract assembly at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg and organized the production of cars under new brands. According to Avtostat, AvtoVAZ and AGR together account for almost 60% of Russian car production. In the future, the group intends to continue expanding its capacities and developing its own platforms. This year, AGR surpassed not only Haval but also other Chinese brands, including Chery and Geely, which also hold significant market shares.
