The Federal Court of Canada rejected the application of the Russian airline Volga-Dnepr to lift sanctions. The heavy transport aircraft An-124 "Ruslan" will remain at Toronto airport.
Representatives of Volga-Dnepr stated at the hearing that the carrier suspended the transit of military cargo back in 2018, after which in 2023 it applied for exclusion from Canada's sanctions list but was refused.
Later, Canadian authorities decided to confiscate the company's An-124 aircraft, which has been parked at Pearson International Airport since 2022.
Earlier it became known that over four years, the An-124 "Ruslan" accumulated a parking debt of more than 1.5 million Canadian dollars — about 1.1 million US dollars. The transporter has no possibility to leave the country.
"Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" sent an inquiry to Volga-Dnepr to clarify the situation.
