PD-8 is no longer a "paper" engine

The PD-8 engine has begun to live not only in test programs and documents – the first two production units have been delivered to the customer. This was announced by Ilya Konyukhov, head of ODK-Saturn.

According to him, the enterprise has already launched serial production of the power plant for the new Russian regional aircraft.

At the moment, we have started serial production of this engine, and we have already delivered the first two PD-8 engines to the customer today.

Konyukhov specifically highlighted another characteristic of the PD-8, which is fundamentally important for the SJ-100 program.

Now the PD-8 is an absolutely Russian import-substituted engine that has received a type certificate.

Alexander Yavkin, chief designer of the Be-200 amphibian, warned that the speed of PD-8 development could result in power plant failures. Former Airbus auditor Andrey Patrakov clarified that the most dangerous place is the hot section of the power plant.
