MiG-41 Developer Names Su-75's Main Flaw: It's Not the Engine

Nikolay Chikunov: The aerodynamic layout of the fighter raises key questions

The aerodynamic design of the new single-engine Su-75 Checkmate fighter may become a stumbling block for the combat aircraft's prospects. This was stated by Nikolay Chikunov, a designer at the A.I. Mikoyan Design Bureau, in an article about the aircraft, which was reviewed by "Pervy Tekhnichesky".

According to the specialist, this is where the main technical risks of the future aircraft lie.

As a specialized expert directly involved in the development of "MiG" projects of a similar class, I will say briefly and with full responsibility: in the case of Checkmate, no miracle happened. And, most likely, it will not.

Chikunov added that only practice can provide final conclusions, but he already considers the chosen solutions too risky for an aircraft of this class.

The head of the flight service of the Sukhoi company, Hero of Russia Sergey Bogdan, reported that the first flight of the Su-75 will take place in early 2026, but as of August, there is no news on the project. At the same time, in the West, the Checkmate is mostly enthusiastically evaluated.
