The motor ship "Yanina", owned by FESCO (part of Rosatom), sank in the Black Sea. The vessel was attacked by two naval drones 130 miles off Novorossiysk. The crew of 17 abandoned the ship when it began to sink. All sailors have been rescued and are in satisfactory condition. The last crew member was found an hour later and brought ashore with the help of the Black Sea Fleet's naval aviation.
Rosatom head Alexey Likhachev stated that this was an ordinary civilian vessel – a peaceful container ship, sailing in international waters with a cargo of civilian products: from frozen foods to building materials. He called the incident piracy and maritime brigandage.
Likhachev thanked the Black Sea Fleet's naval aviation and the international crew of the vessel Delphinus, led by a captain from Egypt, who, despite the danger, came to the rescue at night and saved 16 out of 17 Russian sailors.
