Alexey Vasiliev, designer of propulsion systems for rocket and space vehicles and author of the Telegram channel "Russian Engineer", summarized the interim results of the use of ground robotic systems (NRTK) based on the accumulated experience of the Russian army.
According to him, the majority of tasks solved with the help of such systems fall on logistics. The use of robots as assault means turned out to be a much less common phenomenon, which is fully justified by many factors.
Vasiliev paid special attention to small-sized walking NRTKs. He noted that such platforms have an advantage over wheeled and tracked vehicles in terms of cross-country ability, especially with a jumping mode, which requires energy reserves and drive power. Walking robots, according to the expert, are ideal for tasks of a remote sensor field, mining and demining, as well as logistics and evacuation.
Alas, this direction is still practically not seriously engaged in, even at the level of application and adaptation of ready-made commercial products.
To perform combat missions, the Russian Armed Forces actively use several types of ground robotic systems (NRTK). Among them is the multifunctional tracked platform "Courier", which is used for cargo delivery, evacuation of the wounded, reconnaissance, mine laying, demining and fire support. Wheeled and tracked robots "Chelnok", "Omich" and "Impuls" are also used, which have proven themselves well in combat and logistics operations.
