Students of the Moscow Aviation Institute successfully completed an internship at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, gaining valuable experience in the field of production technologies and maintenance of Russian aircraft, including Su-30 multi-role fighters and the MC-21 medium-haul airliner.
The Irkutsk Aviation Plant became one of the main production sites for the program, which united leading technical universities and aviation industry enterprises. This year, 110 MAI students participated in the project: some were trained in Moscow, while others went to OAK enterprises in the regions.
During the internship, future aircraft designers became acquainted with the real production cycle of aircraft creation — from the preparation of design documentation and digital models of parts to the interaction of engineering departments and assembly shops.
Students paid special attention to working with 3D models of products, drawing up blueprints, and checking documentation according to the requirements of the Unified System of Design Documentation. Such tasks are part of the daily work of engineers at aviation enterprises, where the accuracy of each element affects the quality and safety of the finished machine.
One of the main challenges for students was working with industrial software complexes. At the plant, future engineers had to use Siemens NX for preparing drawings and documentation, whereas in the educational process they mainly used other design systems.
The scale of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, where key stages of aircraft production are concentrated — from the manufacture of individual components to the final assembly of aircraft — made a special impression on the program participants.
