The appearance of a mobile version of the 130-mm A-192M "Armat" artillery system has sparked discussion about its effectiveness in modern battlefield conditions. The project, patented by JSC "Mashinostroitelny Zavod "Arsenal"", involves placing an uninhabited turret with automated loading on a truck semi-trailer.
The key advantage of the complex lies in its powerful firepower. The 130-millimeter gun allows it to effectively engage targets at long distances and be used in coastal defense. However, experts point out that the large size of the installation may reduce its stealth and increase its vulnerability to modern reconnaissance assets.
In conditions of widespread use of unmanned aerial vehicles and space surveillance systems, even well-camouflaged large artillery complexes become difficult objects to conceal. A large turret, massive chassis, and engine thermal signature can simplify the detection of the installation by the enemy.
A particular problem is protection against precision-guided weapons and attack drones. For effective use of the A-192M, dense air defense coverage and specialized anti-drone systems will be required. Without such protection, the heavy installation may be vulnerable to massive attacks.
At the same time, the automated loading system and powerful gun remain serious advantages of the complex. The A-192M is capable of performing tasks that require long range and high destructive power, but its use will require competent tactics and constant position changes.
Against this background, experts compare the new project with lighter mobile artillery systems, which have greater maneuverability and are easier to conceal from reconnaissance. In modern conditions, where speed of movement and survivability are becoming key factors, heavy fire platforms face increasing demands for protection.
