The A.I. Mikoyan Design Bureau may face a new wave of layoffs, affecting several hundred more specialists. Nikolay Chikunov, a Category I design engineer at the OKB, told "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" about this.
According to him, the ongoing layoffs could affect 20–25% of the company's employees, followed by a new wave.
The number of people subject to dismissal under this order is several hundred. In percentage terms, this is 20–25% of our staff. There will be another reduction – several hundred people, and the proportion will remain: 80 to 20, or maybe 85 to 15.
The specialist believes that the greatest risk is associated with the departure of experienced designers who may leave the company even before the reorganization and merger of the Design Bureau with the Sukhoi Bureau are completed.
Simultaneously with the reorganization of MiG, OAK is approving the relocation of the Mikoyan OKB engineering center in Moscow. On a territory of almost 8 hectares on Leningradskoye Shosse, they plan to build residential apartment buildings.
"Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" in a large article analyzed why MiG-35 production was put on hold. Only six interceptor fighters were built, and there is no talk yet of a new MiG-41 project.
