The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of IKI and ISZF RAS predicts a new magnetic storm on Earth on the evening of July 12. A G1-level geomagnetic disturbance is expected.

The peak of geomagnetic activity will occur at 6:00 PM Moscow time. According to scientists' forecasts, the magnetic storm will last approximately until 9:00 PM, after which the state of the magnetosphere will gradually begin to calm down. The phenomenon should completely end around 3:00 AM on July 13.

Magnetic storms are not predicted in the near future. The next noticeable geomagnetic activity is not expected earlier than August 10.

Magnetic storms arise due to changes in space weather – primarily due to streams of charged particles from the Sun that interact with the Earth's magnetic field. The strength of such events is assessed on the G scale: a G1 level is considered a weak storm.

For most people, a weak magnetic storm is imperceptible. However, there are ongoing scientific discussions about whether geomagnetic activity can affect human well-being. There are studies on a possible connection with the functioning of the cardiovascular and nervous systems, but a consensus has not yet been reached.

At the same time, strong magnetic storms can affect the operation of satellite systems, radio communications, and other technical infrastructure.
