New Generation Turbines in Russia Face Valve Problem

The country is already producing coal-fired units independently

Silovye Mashiny company is ready to produce the latest steam turbines for coal-fired thermal power plants. However, the problem lies in the absence of the necessary valves for power units, said Alexey Podkolzin, CEO of Silovye Mashiny.

According to him, Russia has all the necessary technologies and materials for manufacturing units, including the required alloys. However, the issue with auxiliary parts has not been resolved.

Technically, there is a small problem with valves that are not produced in Russia, meaning not the unit itself. Everything else is made in Russia.

Another problem with domestic turbines is maintenance. Repair intervals are shorter than Western counterparts, and the process takes longer. As a result, the equipment is ready for operation about 70% of the time, compared to 95% for foreign installations. This increases costs and reduces capacity payments.

Earlier, it became known that the Ural Turbine Plant began work on creating the first 330 MW steam turbine — the largest installation of its class in Russia.
