The launching of the small missile ship "Shtorm" of Project 22800 "Karakurt" at the Amur Shipbuilding Plant became another stage in the construction of this series. Due to problems with power plants, it has become one of the most protracted shipbuilding projects, the Center for AST reported.
The contract for the construction of ships for the Pacific Fleet was concluded back in 2018, but even the first ships of the series have not yet fully completed testing. For example, the lead ship for the Amur plant, "Rzhev", only began testing at the end of 2025, several years after its launch.
The main reason for the delays is the shortage of high-speed M507D-1 diesel engines, which are produced by the St. Petersburg enterprise "Zvezda". It is the lack of power plants that has led to already built ship hulls waiting for months and even years for the installation of a power unit.
Despite the difficulties, the construction of the series continues. Currently, 16 ships of Project 22800 are being built simultaneously for the Russian Navy at various Russian shipyards.
