The Russian Navy has resumed a practice not seen since the Soviet era. Diesel-electric and nuclear submarines have once again begun jointly performing combat missions in remote areas of the Pacific Ocean.

The first diesel-electric submarine to embark on a long patrol was the "Magadan" of Project 636.3.

Igor Kurdin, Captain 1st Rank and Chairman of the Submarine Sailors' Club, clarified that a similar practice was already used in Soviet times.

Now we have returned to a practice that already existed, especially in cooperation with nuclear submarines.

According to him, such a combination allows for maximum utilization of the advantages of both types of submarines. Nuclear submarines have high autonomy and a large search area, while diesel-electric submarines are significantly quieter, making them particularly effective for covert observation.
